Mead Labels: Sizes, Templates, and Homebrew Bottle Fit
Short answer: a mead label is a wine label or a beer label, depending on the bottle you filled. Start from the stocked size for that bottle, measure the panel, and choose a film that survives a cold bottle if you serve it chilled.

Start from the bottle you used
Homebrewers bottle mead in whatever they have. Each bottle family already has a stocked label size and a measuring guide on this site.
750 mL wine bottle
The default for still mead that will age. Corks or screw caps.
Starting size: 3½" × 4¾" (Avery 22827, often rotated)
Burgundy-shape bottles can have a published panel as short as 3.18 inches, so check height before printing.
12 oz beer bottle
Common for carbonated mead, session mead, and cyser that is capped like beer.
Starting size: 3⅓" × 4" (Avery 5524 waterproof film)
Longneck panels vary by more than an inch between current bottles. Rotate the label and proof both orientations.
375 mL split or flip-top
Gift bottles, competition entries, and small test batches.
Starting size: Measure first; a 3 inch tall label is a practical ceiling
No pre-cut sheet size is tied to a 375 mL bottle. Design at the measured height, print on a full sheet, and cut.
Mead label templates
The editor has no separate mead category because the sizes are the wine and beer sizes. Open a Wine & Spirits template for a 750 mL bottle or a Beer template for a 12 oz bottle, then change the words. What to put on a homebrew mead label
- Name and style
- Traditional, melomel, cyser, metheglin, braggot, or your own name for it.
- Honey source
- Varietal or apiary. Wildflower from a named county reads better than "honey".
- Alcohol and sweetness
- Approximate ABV from your gravity readings, and dry, semi-sweet, or sweet.
- Bottled date and batch
- Mead changes for years. A date lets you compare bottles later.
- Serving note
- Chilled, room temperature, or "open after" a date for a mead still settling.

Mead label questions
- What size are mead labels?
- Mead has no label size of its own. The bottle decides. A 750 mL wine bottle usually takes a label around 3.5 by 4.75 inches, a 12 oz beer bottle around 3.33 by 4 inches, and both depend on the straight-sided panel of the exact bottle. Measure the panel, then pick stock.
- Are there mead label templates?

- What should a homebrew mead label say?
- Name, style, honey source, approximate ABV, sweetness, and bottled date cover what a friend or a competition judge wants to know. If you sell mead, federal and state labeling rules apply. - Will a paper label survive a chilled mead bottle?
- Plain paper lifts and smears with condensation. For mead served cold, use a waterproof film such as Avery 5524, printed with laser or pigment ink. For bottles you reuse, a removable film such as Avery 22827 peels off cleanly.
