How to Design a Wine Label
1. Keep it elegant and simple
The best wine labels use clean typography and plenty of white space. Resist the urge to fill every inch. Let the design breathe.
2. Include required information
A proper wine label needs the wine name, vintage year, varietal or blend, region/appellation, producer name, and alcohol content. Add volume (750 mL) as well.
3. Choose fonts that convey your brand
Serif fonts like Georgia suggest tradition and elegance. Sans-serif fonts feel modern and minimal. Script fonts add a personal, artisan touch.
4. Use a color palette that fits the wine
Deep burgundy and gold for reds, crisp whites and greens for white wines, and soft pinks for rose. The label color should hint at what is inside.

- What size wine label does the editor use?
- The editor uses a 3.5" x 5" front-label canvas as a starting point. It is not a universal 750 mL bottle standard. Measure the straight-sided area on your exact bottle and adjust the canvas before printing.
- Can I create front and back wine labels?
- Yes. Finish the front direction, select the project name in the document bar to open Projects, then choose Manage labels & print files and + Matching back label. The builder reuses the front paper, pattern, border, size, and colors, then gives you editable sections for tasting notes, bottle details, and producer information. Both sides remain editable in the same browser-local project and can print together.
- Are the wine label templates free?
- All templates are free to use and customize. Download a full-resolution PNG, or make an actual-size US Letter or A4 print-sheet PDF with crop guides. Both exports are free.
- Can I use these labels for wine I sell commercially?
- The designs you create are yours to use however you like, including for commercial purposes. Make sure to comply with TTB labeling regulations for wines sold in the US.
